ART
The Art Club was formed in 1994 from just a small gathering of 5 persons. It has gone from strength to strength and continues to be a very active part of the social scene of Elm Park. Their annual Art Exhibition is a diary event to attend.

Its activities include:
- members meeting each Friday morning
- an annual away to a hotel for painting with friends in relaxing surroundings
- an annual golf outing and Christmas dinner
- inviting art teachers from time to time to give demonstrations and workshops
- an Art Exhibition each February at which members display their works of art

BOOKS
There are currently three Book Clubs in Elm Park catering for members interested in books and reading. The Clubs meet weekday mornings.

BRIDGE
Elm Park Bridge Club is active with 275 members. Bridge competitions are held every Wednesday and Friday night throughout the year. Informal bridge is also played on a Monday night as arranged by members.

The Club caters for all standards of bridge player with separate competitions for inexperienced and experienced players on Wednesday nights between September and the end of May. Friday nights and Wednesdays competitions, during the period from June to September, are open to all levels.

Members may play with guests in the normal weekly competitions but the same guest may only play once in a calendar month. Guests must be signed in.

Morning Bridge is played on the first Tuesday of each month from September to April inclusive commencing at 10am followed by optional lunch in the dining room. Members may bring guests.

Morning Bridge will also take place during club week on Tuesday the 28th June followed by optional lunch.

Honours and Achievements

Many members have brought honours and distinction to the club from its earliest days to the present time.

In 1955, Robert (Bob) McLennan and Joe O’Gorman were on the first team to represent the newly fledged IBU (Irish Bridge Union) at an Invitational International team event in Como in Italy.

Other players to represent their country include: David and Des Scannell, their mother Patricia, Carmel Higgins, Sean O’Lubaigh and Ann Montwill.

Most recently, Des Scannell and his partner won the 2011 Moylan Cup which is the premier pair’s competition of the IBU.

Sean O’Lubaigh has attained Life Master status for his play at National level and represented Ireland in the senior Camrose (annual international competition confined to countries in the {geographical} British Isles) in Oxford.

CHOIR
The Elm Park Choir is a vibrant and integral part of Elm Park. It was founded in 1976 with the twin objectives of providing Club members with the opportunity to enjoy choral singing, and of entertaining the overall Club membership at concerts and other functions.

There are currently forty Choir members over four sections - Sopranos, Altos, Tenors and Basses. While there is some emphasis on musical development, supported by a professional Choir Director, there is also a strong social aspect to the Choir. Practices take place every Tuesday evening at 8.00 pm.

The Choir fulfills a number of regular engagements each year from September to May. These include participating in the Club’s annual Ecumenical Service for Deceased Members, singing at the Club’s Christmas Carols Concerts, the Captains’ Concert and at other Club events.

In addition, the Choir undertakes some external performances each year, both locally and occasionally in other golf clubs. Over the years, the Elm Park Choir has also entered some choral competitions, winning first prize for Adult Choirs at Dublin’s Feis Ceoil on two occasions.

New members are very welcome to come along to a practice night or contact one of the Choir Committee.

DRAMA
The Elm Park Players are a new addition to the social activities of the club. The Producer/Director and cast are all Elm Park members. Their first production 'The Captain's Prize' was a major success. Further productions are to follow.

OPERA
The Opera Interest Group was set up in 2009 for Elm Park members with an interest in Opera. It has proved most popular with approx 70 members attending each Opera Interest Group meeting.

The Group meets one night per month (Mondays) during the winter when an Opera DVD is shown with a short introduction to each opera by one of the Committee members.

SNOOKER
The Snooker section has been part of the sporting activity in Elm Park since 1979.

Today, there are three full size snooker tables in an extensive snooker facility which includes a dumb waiter for ease of access to refreshments. Membership and competition is strong enough to field two teams which complete and play in the South Dublin golf club snooker league, with some success winning the league three times over the last five years.

Internally there are several competitions through the year, including the club championship, a handicap championship, a doubles championship, an intermediate championship and 'The Wednesday Flyers' who play every week throughout the season.

New members are always welcome to join the Snooker section.

WINE CLUB
Elm Park Wine Club is open to all categories of members.

It is a wine appreciation club with monthly events combining a pleasant mix of social and educational tastings of a wide variety of wines from around the world. Seven or eight wines are presented at each tasting.

All tastings are facilitated by professional wine presenters and we regularly have presentations by winemakers and vineyard owners. At each tasting we have a simple main course and cheese meal matched to the wines being tasted except for the last tasting of the season in April when we have a seven course ‘Gourmet’ meal matched with the best wines tasted during the year.

The Wine Club season starts on the last Friday in October with subsequent tastings on the last Friday of each month up to the end of April.

The Wine Club also organises an annual trip for members to a wine region in Europe usually over 4/5 days in May with a mix of winery visits, fine food and wine.

There is an Annual subscription which covers the cost of wine at all tastings with a charge payable on the night for the meal. There is a Wine Club Gourmet Dinner in April.

Members may bring guests to any of the tastings at a guest rate.
