Introductory Letter to Members

6th June, 2017

Dear members,

I am delighted to begin my role as Director of Tennis at Elm Park. Victoria Gaidau will be joining the coaching team in September. We are looking to raise the standard of all the players and get as many people out playing matches as possible, be it league or social tennis. We are extremely passionate about what we do and really appreciate this opportunity.

I very much Iook forward to building relationships and trust with members and committees.

From next Tuesday till the end of June, I will be running the junior summer camps as advertised from 10am to 2pm each weekday. I will also be available for private lessons outside of those hours, so if you wish to contact me, please see the full details in the attached poster.  The poster will also be available on the club website and notice boards. Victoria Gaidau will be available for private lessons from the beginning of September, details will be available nearer the time.

I am currently preparing the provisional junior coaching groups for September from the recent Junior Coaching Questionnaire. Many thanks for your responses, it is great to see such interest. As you can see from the questionnaire, I would like to cater for all categories of players, such as mini tennis, social, development and performance players. If you have yet to respond please do so here…

I will also meet with the Mens and Ladies Captains, Diarmuid and Olywn to discuss a league training schedule for the year. I firmly believe if we can improve the teams through training, match practice and recruitment along with ‘developing our own’ juniors we will be able to maintain success. Part of integrating the junior and adult league players will be to introduce juniors from the age of 13/14 into the adult training / match practice sessions.

In September, Victoria and I plan to run ladies group coaching sessions in the mornings and will continue to run the very successful Wednesday Ladies Morning tennis. Team Tennis, Progressive Doubles and Club Night will continue to run and we will look into other social events such as Kiwi Doubles, Reds and Blacks and Poker Tennis which you can read about here...

We will also be bringing in Cardio Tennis in September along with looking at doing fitness classes. This is along with bringing in guest speakers to talk about sports nutrition and sports psychology.

I have researched a new ladder system and hope to setup junior and senior ladders. This will help rank players in the club for singles and doubles, encourage more matchplay and also improve transparency around league selection. Along with this I hope to setup junior and senior round robins throughout the year.

A new coaching section will be added to the Elm Park website, which will show details of the coaching programmes, tactics, fun games, videos and much more.

On my return from holiday in July I will be offering some free private lesson days and free group fix-it clinics such as doubles tactics / positioning / formations. If ever you need help also for free with your game, such as something you found difficult in a recent match or a query about tennis rules, please feel free to email me at any stage at and I’d be delighted to help. You can also visit my website at where you can find over 10,000 free coaching videos and articles to help your game.

We look forward to meeting you all and help fulfil the huge potential that Elm Park has in an enjoyable, fun environment.
