Elm Park Special Olympics Inter-Club Golf Event

On April 1st 2014 Elm Park hosted a Special Olympics Inter-Club Golf competition. Elm Park invited 6 other clubs to participate in this Inaugural Event with 3 members on each team.

The clubs that participated together with Elm Park were Milltown, Bray, Charlesland, Elm Green, Blainroe, Grange and a team we named Parkroe consisting of Elm Park and Blainroe members.

We were blessed with the weather which was unseasonably sunny for this time of year. We wish to thank the many Elm Park members who volunteered their services on the day despite it being a working day for some. Also we are extremely grateful to the general membership who gave up the course for the morning to allow the event run smoothly.

Needless to say the 9 Hole competition was fiercely contested. At the conclusion of the golf competition the club hosted a magnificent lunch for all participants after which the presentation of prizes took place. Club President Helen O’Connor spoke a wonderfully inspiring few words before joining the Chairperson of Blackrock Flyers Denise O’Leary in presenting the prizes. View photos of the occasion HERE

Our Special Olympic golfers had a fantastic end of season event on the 31st May 2014 in Elm Park Golf Club. All available Club Officers participated in a Foursomes Putting Competition with our Special Olympic golfers. Following the golf, we had a wonderful reception in the clubhouse.

This is a very special day bringing together the Elm Park Special Olympic Volunteers, the Officers of the Club, our Special Olympic golfers and their Parents.

The winners of the competition were as follows:

1st Place: Andrew Murray partnered by President Helen O’Connor

2nd Place: Mark Claffey partnered by Marie Gilbride

3rd Place: Sarah Sherwood partnered by Mairead Lynch

President’s Trophy
The highlight of this end of season event is the awarding of the President's Trophy to the most outstanding Athlete throughout the season. This year our President, Helen O’Connor, presented the trophy to Mark Claffey, a worthy winner.

A great day was enjoyed by all.    View photos of the day here

All of our five athletes competing in the golf event performed heroically and they achieved

We are very proud of their performance, which was played over 3 days of fierce competition. Well done to all. The selection of the Irish team for Los Angeles will not take place until later this year, so we hope some of our golfers will be selected.

Much thanks and gratitude is due to our Elm Park volunteers all for the wonderful coaching and support you gave our golfers each Saturday and for the many texts and emails of good wishes sent in support of our athletes in the Games. They were much appreciated.
